Clients in the sector 6
Since quite a long time ago health sector and its’ professionals recognize that the economic, social, family and psychological conditions underpin many of the conditions that patients are presented with. So social care workers could be found in hospitals and public schools, child welfare agencies, family agencies, settlement houses and etc. since approximately 1920. Social care workers often are working in a complementary relationship with medical professionals, the former concentrating on physiological health, and the latter on social health. Health and social care can revamp the standards of living for those threatened or vulnerable to society, offering support for the elderly, support for people with mental health needs, support for those with learning and physical disabilities, support for those suffering from alcohol and substance abuse problems, victims of domestic abuse, children in need of foster care, adoption, child protection and others (The National Institute for Social Work, 2018). Let’s find out a bit more about specifics of each of these groups and services that might be delivered to them. Indicative time of completion of unit: 50 min.
