Typically manual transmissions do have a better rating than automatics but the new auto transmission is rated the same as the manual for fuel consumption.

The diesel’s EPA fuel economy rating: 30 mpg city/42 mpg hwy with both the standard 6-speed manual transmission and the optional 6-speed dual-clutch automatic. The Jetta GLI features a zippy 2.0-liter DOHC 4-cylinder gas turbo, pumping 200 hp and 207 lb-ft of torque. Premium fuel is required.
So I test drove both today a 2015 Golf TDI S with DSG and a 2015 Golf TDI S with 6MT. With the DSG, it almost makes more sense to just leave it in auto and let the car take care of Combined EPA number for both is 36, but the highway number for the 6MT is 45 vs. the DSG’s 43. . I have a 2015 Jetta TDI S in manual.
