.The Zeiss Milvus 85mm f/1.4 lens is a manual focus lens, and offers excellent sharpness, at a more affordable price when compared to the Zeiss OTUS 85mm f/1.4 lens. The Zeiss Milvus 85mm f/1.4 is
Nikon 50mm Manual Focus Lens Shootout Although not displayed in a table above, the Nikkor 1.2 is the sharpest lens at F/2. It’s actually one of the sharpest lenses I’ve ever shot at this F-stop, and it’s pretty amazing.
I just got myself an a7ii, and I already have some e-mount lenses: Zeiss 24-70 f/4. Rokinon 135mm f/2.0. Rokinon 14mm f/2.8. Minolta AF 70-210 f/4. But I am wanting to get more into the vintage adapted lenses, I have 800 dollars to spend on lenses currently and I want to find the underappreciated and forgotten manual lenses that still look stellar and that i can adapt to the a7ii.
Most f/1.4 or f/1.2 lenses get very soft at their maximum aperture unless you’re shelling out for something like a Zeiss Otus, but this lens stays pretty damn sharp, and for something that’s often available for under $130 the Canon FD 50mm SSC is a hard value to beat.
One of the ten sharpest camera lenses? The Swedish magazine FOTO does a lot of lens testing, and for more than 20 years has published MTF results of the lenses it reviews. Its database of lenses is available only to subscribers. However, recently FOTO published a list of the ten lenses that scored

Manual focusing can be tricky due to the lack of distance markings. This is one of the sharpest lenses that Nikon has ever produced. Its ultra wide-angle 14-24mm zoom gives plenty of options for all kinds of photographers, particularly coupled with a maximum f/2.8 aperture. 3. Panasonic 20mm F1.7 – Sharpness 12, Overall 22 (EM1, EP5) The lens that started it all for me, packaged with the Panasonic GF1 it’s still regarded as one of the best lenses for Micro Four Thirds. One of the smallest, yet sharpest lenses on the system.
As far as classic normal lenses are concerned the Canon nFD 1.4/50 is the best performer at f/1.4 and also the most affordable one. My recommendation for first manual lens. You should be aware of: Even though it outperforms other normal lenses it isn’t that sharp at f/1.4 and the bokeh is on the nervous side. Build quality could be better.
Lens wide open less sharp than later post-war lenses, pleasant soft what was requirement from a portrait lens in those years when this lens launched. Stopped down to F2 at least or even better more , stunning performet with swirly bokeh. Lens has simple construction , focusing very smooth , light weight , diameter is not huge so pleasant to use.
Its a simple question – What lenses are sharpest WO regardless of the mount. I just want opinions not a solution to a problem that does not exist for me. The fact is I like fast lenses that are sharp WO. Just my preference. I have too many already that are unusable to average until you hit F4.
