How It Is Done. Urinate before collecting the stool so that you do not get any urine in the stool sample. Put on gloves before handling your stool. Pass stool (but no urine) into a dry container. Place the lid on the container and label it with your name, your doctor’s name, and the date the stool was collected.

At Kaiser Permanente, we use the fecal immunochemical test (FIT) to test for colorectal cancer. For the FIT, there are no special instructions or advance planning

Place the lid on the container. Label it with your name, your doctor’s name, and the date the stool was collected. If you need more than one sample, use a separate container for each sample. Collect a sample only once a day unless your doctor gives you other directions.
