I don’t have idle issues, but I will get a shudder sometimes when coming to a complete stop. It’s almost like the transmission grabs the engine too hard while decelerating. So between about 20mph and about 5 mph I’ll get a shudder like the engine is about to die. It’s very rare, but it does happen. Is this the same problem, the IACV?
I know this is an old thread but I am having the same exact problem with my wifes 2009 Outback 2.5i base model with manual transmission. Only after fully warmed up, idle drops after depressing the clutch coming to a complete stop.
The Subaru WRX gets bad marks from Consumer Reports for reliability. It’s the brand’s least reliable model due to transmission problems.
Once praised for its design, Subaru’s CVT is showing problems aging ranging from jerks and shudders, to hestiations and stalls. The issues have forced Subaru to extend their CVT warranty. Subaru’s Lineartronic Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) was first made available in the 5th generation Legacy and Outback. Critics praised its design
3rd gear slips badly under any acceleration and it clunks into and out of 4th gear on top of idling horribly. Car has already had $1200 worth of engine work so far and its already running rough

Subaru wants to have the safest cars in the world and the manual transmission, the one good thing left in this world, is holding that up, according to a report from AutoExpress. That led an
Had a few manual transaxles and donor cars available so I swapped the the ecvt for a manual. Went pretty smooth, except the idle increased about 1200. It was idling around 900 before I swapped the trannys, and after the swap the idle climbed to around 2100. I didn’t pull the intake manifold or modify anything with the carb, so I suspect the computer is confused about the transmission status Subaru AWD systems are pretty well designed and failure is not all that common. When you have a failed or failing system there are some things to look for and this article will explain these symptoms and how to repair them without even replacing or removing the transmission.
I hate to say it, but the shop is blowing smoke up your ass. There is a well documented problem on here, as well as many other Subaru forums, with vibrations caused by using aftermarket axles. Automatic transmission cars seem to be effected by this, while manual transmissions don’t. Supposedly the tolerances in the axles spline are slightly
(3)contacted dealership service department and was advised that they have another vehicle with same problems in for over a month with no fix available yet. I was offered a loaner vehicle, but I declined it. Vehicle is a 2011 Subaru Outback with 6 speed manual transmission, not a 2010.
I’m the proud owner of a newly refurbished 2001 Subaru Legacy Outback with manual transmission. It’s the first Subaru I’ve owned and generally speaking I love the car. However, the manual transmission is giving me considerably more trouble than I’m used to having.
