Interior Gateway Routing Protocol (IGRP) is a distance vector interior gateway protocol (IGP) developed by Cisco. It is used by routers to exchange routing data within an autonomous system.. IGRP is a proprietary protocol.IGRP was created in part to overcome the limitations of RIP (maximum hop count of only 15, and a single routing metric) when used within large networks.

    – Routing Information Protocol – RIP (Routing Information Protocol) RIP is a standardized Distance Vector protocol, designed for use on smaller networks. RIP was one of the first true Distance Vector routing protocols, and is supported on a wide variety of systems. RIP adheres to the following Distance Vector characteristics:
ASs want to choose own local routing algorithm AS takes care of getting packets to/from their own hosts Intradomain routing: RIP, OSPF, etc ASs want to choose own non-local routing policy Interdomain routing must accommodate this BGP is the current interdomain routing protocol BGP: Border Gateway Protocol Example AS-1 AS-2 AS-3 Interior router
Enhanced Interior Gateway Routing Protocol (EIGRP) is an advanced distance-vector routing protocol that is used on a computer network for automating routing decisions and configuration. The protocol was designed by Cisco Systems as a proprietary protocol, available only on Cisco routers. Example of updating a routing table Receive: a response RIP message 1. Add one to the hop count for each advertised destination 2. Repeat for each advertised destination If ( destination is not in my routing table) Add the destination to my table Else If ( next-hop field is the same) Replace existing entry with the new advertised one
Some of the most common routing protocols include RIP, IGRP, EIGRP, OSPF, IS-IS and BGP. There are two primary routing protocol types although many different routing protocols defined with those two types. Link state and distance vector protocols comprise the primary types.
IGRP has some similarities to older protocols such as Xerox’s Routing Information Protocol, Berkeley’s RIP, and Dave Mills’ Hello. It differs from these protocols primarily in being designed for larger and more complex networks. Section 4 gives a more detailed comparison with RIP, which is the most widely used of the older generation of protocols.

Interior gateway protocols type 2, distance-vector routing protocols, such as Routing Information Protocol, RIPv2, IGRP. Exterior gateway protocols are routing protocols used on the Internet for exchanging routing information between Autonomous Systems , such as Border Gateway Protocol (BGP), Path Vector Routing Protocol.
Interior Gateway Routing Protocol (IGRP) Link-state routing protocol. In link-state routing protocols, each router possesses information about the complete network topology. Each router then independently calculates the best next hop from it for every possible destination in the network using

The Interior Gateway Routing Protocol (IGRP) is a dynamic distance-vector routing protocol designed by Cisco Systems in the mid-1980s for routing in an autonomous system that contains large, arbitrarily complex networks with diverse bandwidth and delay characteristics.
This document describes how to configure Enhanced Interior Gateway Routing Protocol (EIGRP) for IPv6. EIGRP is an enhanced version of the IGRP developed by Cisco. It is an enhanced distance vector protocol that relies on the Diffused Update Algorithm (DUAL) to calculate the shortest path to a destination within a network.
