    Slime Molds: Myxomycetes. Slime molds are fungus-like organisms that have previously been classified as fungi, but they are no longer classified as fungi.

    Myxogastria/Myxogastrea (myxogastrids, ICZN) or Myxomycetes (ICBN), is a class of slime molds that contains 5 orders, 14 families, 62 genera and 888 species. They are colloquially known as the plasmodial or acellular slime moulds. The continuous classification of new taxa reveals that the class is not fully described.

    Slime mold or slime mould is an informal name given to several kinds of unrelated eukaryotic organisms that can live freely as single cells, but can aggregate together to form multicellular reproductive structures. Slime molds were formerly classified as fungi but are no longer considered Myxogastria or myxomycetes: syncytial, plasmodial, or acellular slime molds
    Plasmodial (or “true”) slime molds (the Myxomycota or Myxogastria or They have often been classified with the Dictyostelids within the cellular slime Stephenson, S.L., and Stempen, H., Myxomycetes – A handbook of slime molds: Portland,Slime moulds are classified as Protista (or Protocista). They are neither plants, animals nor fungi. Slime moulds are peculiar protists that normally take the form of amoeba but also develop fruit bodies that release spores, and are superficially similar to the sporangia of fungi.
