Why should you upgrade from points or a Mopar-type electronic ignition control box to a GM HEI module? In short, the HEI gives a hotter, longer-duration spark for better ignition and more complete combustion. It eliminates the ballast resistor, which is a common failure point with Mopar points and electronic ignition systems.
Conversion Kits – Points to Electronic Put some spark in that ignition with one of many distributors from high performance ignition builders like: Accel, Mallory, MSD Ignition, Pertronix, Proform and more. Choose from HEI distributors, billet, crank trigger distributors and others for street to racing applications. JEGS stocks thousands of distributors at everday low prices ready to ship
Car Craft tales you through the steps of how to convert a Ford or Chrysler ingition to a GM HEI for a high-performance, more-efficient ignition.
There are two ways you can go about converting from points to electronic ignition – you can install a factory electronic system that replaces the factory points and distributor, or you can install an aftermarket high-performance system with parts and components from various manufacturers. With just a few tools, the factory system is ready to

Here are a few of the top drawings we get from various sources, we wish these photos will certainly be useful to you, and ideally really pertinent to exactly what you want concerning the Ignition Coil Distributor Wiring Diagram is. Produces strong, blue spark when used with Hot-Spark red electronic ignition conversion kits (red ignition module). Also excellent for points-based distributors – high primary resistance helps reduce points burning, pitting. Standard 56mm (2.2 in.) coil diameter – fits stock coil clamps.
I searched up a simple wiring diagram for a Chevrolet 350 and a HEI Ignition earlier and now I can’t find it. Does anybody have the link or simple instructions handy for the coil, battery, ignition, distrributor, ect?? This will be to wire up a 350 in a 71 FJ40 Thanks

HEI Conversions By Al Campion, AutoReWire.com . So you have decided to convert to an HEI distributor. Here is the long and short of it. The short of it: Just remove the existing point distributor and coil and install the new HEI distributor. Remove the existing ballast resistor or replace the existing resistance wire and you’re ready to roll
Most vehicles built since the 1970s have an electronic ignition system, which replaced the old breaker point ignition system. This change-over made engines run smoother and more efficiently and eliminated the need for owners to replace points and condenser every few thousand miles. However, if

The HEI, which stands for High Energy Ignition, is a breaker-less, transistor- controlled, inductive discharge system. It operates in a similar fashion to the conventional points type ignition, but relies solely on a series of electronic signals to turn on and off the primary current rather than the mechanical opening and closing of points
If the motor is undisturbed while the distributor is out, it’s simply a matter of reversal at this point to install the new HEI unit. Realign your markings and let it fall into place. DO NOT force it! The teeth of the gears must properly mesh together in order to fully reseat. Once in position, hand-tighten the single bolt and clamp to allow for slight adjustability when re-starting the motor.
