I can’t figure how to wire this horn. It only has one wire hookup and if you put power to that hookup and ground the frame of the horn it honks. I have two wires running to the horn. One from the power and the other from the steering column just above the steering box. This a sparton horn . The other horn on my 48 cj2a had 2 wire hookup.
three terminal early Ford relay. One wire is from a battery + terminal. One wire goes to the SPARTON (hint, hint beaner) horn. the other wire goes to the insulated horn switch in the column. Pressing on the horn button grounds the relay sending 6 volt to the horn. The long trumpet style Sparton horns look cool in an open engine compartment.
I can’t recall if they were Prestolites or Spartons and I’m really not sure what is correct for our cars. When I got my car it had 1 Sparton and 1 Delco-Remy horn, definately not correct. 70charger500 Tolley was kind enough to donate a couple of Sparton horns off another old Mopar. they were funtional but sounded a little anemic.

Sparton horn not working. Post by quitchabitchin » Tue Apr 14, 2009 1:09 am The Sparton Model U horn on our boat is not functioning. I took it apart and cleaned it out and checked the wiring. It has voltage all the way to the internal terminal. I have no idea how a horn makes noise.
