Just to add to Paul A’s response. Most Starrett mics have TWO means of adjustment. One changes the location of the barrell/thimble on the micrometer shaft – which is what Paul covered. The other, which is only meant for very minor adjustments (+/- .001 or less) is made by rotating the normally fixed sleeve of the micrometer.
