InDesign Tip: Export Document as Separate PDF Pages. It’s true—sometimes it’s the small improvements that can have a great impact. Choose File>Export and choose either the Adobe PDF Print or Interactive format. You can also select File>Adobe PDF Presets Transparency in PDF files refers to objects on a page, such as images or text, which are transparent or ‘show through’. InDesign has a very nice mechanism for this. Pages that contain transparent objects have a checkerboard pattern in the pages list.
InDesign transparencies are particularly useful when overlaying text onto complex images; semitransparent boxes are used beneath the text to avoid visual clashes with underlying images. By default, InDesign objects are opaque when created.

I was exporting a PDF for print from Adobe Indesign. When opening in the Preview App I am seeing color-changes in the transparent areas of the embedded TIFFs.
When importing PDF files in InDesign, the placement allows for some editing, but there are limits. You can scale images but editing the individual text directly The best way to edit PDF text before importing it is to use Acrobat X to make the changes you need to the PDF.
