If you do not see “Bleed and Slug” at the bottom of the window, click the “More Options” button. Enter 0.125 for the top, bottom, left and right bleed For a more in-depth tutorial on how to set up your document to accomodate for bleed, see ” Page Bleeds ,” an article from PrepressX.com . Or you could place the Photoshop file into an appropriately sized InDesign file or Illustrator file and save out with the correct marks and then adjust page boxes if needed (for example, Illustrator does not correctly set the bleed box in CS6).
PDF files lacking bleed is a common issue encountered by prepress operators. Although some printers will just go ahead and print the file anyway, most printers will contact their clients and ask them to export the PDF again and add bleed to the file. However, some printers have discovered a way to simply add the bleed to the PDF themselves.
The bleed settings are found in the new file dialogue box however in InDesign, they are hidden. Hit the ‘more options’ in the new file dialogue box and the bleed settings will appear. How do you add bleed to files in Photoshop? Adding bleed to your files in Photoshop is a little bit more complicated than it is in Illustrator or InDesign.
Re: adding bleed to PDF It depends on the element you need to add bleed to. Sometimes just removing a clipping mask will do it, other times you need to do it on each element using the position tool. If the PDF has no bleed box the next step would be to create one using the Global change page boxes tab.
Activating this option makes the resulting PDF file smaller but it also makes it very difficult for a prepress operator to tweak bleed settings afterward if you didn’t use (enough) bleed. How to edit bleed or add it to a document? Not all applications support bleed and not all designers are aware of the need to extend content beyond the page
