The Mu-Tron Bi-Phase is a dual phase-shifter invented and marketed by Musictronics USA in the 70s. It has become well-known and well-loved for it’s ‘classic’ warm and deep sound, as well as the flexibility of it’s control and audio-processing capabilities.

The Mutron Biphase is a legendary (bi)-phasor pedal, made by Musitronic’s around 1975/76 It’s a 12 stages or 2*6 stages optical phasor and one of the best i have ever heard. I have repaired many of them. Also one day of 1996, i have cloned it.

The Bi-Phase has plenty of control features, both internal and external (see the user manual for more technical info and specifications), including the ability to control the sweep using the optional Opti-Pot optical foot pedal for wah-style monster phasing.The two independent sweep generators can be used singly or coupled with a choice of sine or square waves.

Next up, I was determined to get the infamous Mutron Bi-phase sound. I own an actual unit myself and although it sounds are glorious, it’s footprint on any pedalboard is WAY to big and its cost/collectability/rarity make it one of those beloved units that you’d rather keep at home rather than take it out to gig with.
