View Price on Amazon View Price on Ebay New from the NAMM show, we have the MXR Classic 108 Fuzz Mini. This pedal is basically an updated version of the old Fuzzface (silicon version) pedal, and appropriately enough contains the time honored silicon BC-108 transistor, and features the instantly recognizable turquoise hammertone finish.
Guitarists of all styles will dig the familiar late-Sixties/ early-Seventies crunch delivered by the new MXR Classic 108 Fuzz. We’ve taken the guts of our BC-108 loaded Fuzz Face, placed them in a more pedal-board friendly shape, and added the modern conveniences of a battery door, optional AC operation, and true bypass with LED.
The Buffer switch also eliminates the audible oscillation which was caused when some wah-wahs were placed in front of a Fuzz Face. The Classic 108 Fuzz comes in a Phase 100-sized box, with a turquoise finish reminiscent of Jim Dunlop’s Jimi Hendrix Fuzzface.
The M-173 pedal’s Buffer switch eliminates the audible oscillation caused when some wah-wahs are placed in front of a Fuzz Face. The Classic 108 Fuzz Pedal comes in a heavy-duty Phase 100-sized box with a sweet hammer-tone turquoise finish..
Essentially this pedal is simply the guts of the BC 108-loaded Fuzz Face, transplanted into a more pedalboard-friendly layout than the almost hubcap-like proportions of the original unit. Boutique builders have been doing this very thing for years, and MXR is well aware they need to do something to make the Classic 108 Fuzz stand out from the pack.
MXR M296 Classic 108 Mini Fuzz Now in an MXR mini housing, the Classic 108 Fuzz gives you all the same vintage fuzz tones in a much smaller footprint. Like its larger predecessor, it’s loaded with the silicon BC-108 transistor for a round and dirty crunch.
The MXR Classic Overdrive is keeping secrets; specifically, it houses a secret switch that turns this affordable overdrive into a Zakk Wylde ZW44 drive. This is essentially two pedals in one, and though it might not be very convenient to take the pedal apart to get the second circuit, it’s hard to complain at this price point.
Cool, I’m glad some people like what I’m doing. Unfortunately I don’t have too many more pedals on the horizon, but I’ve got a Retro Sonic Rat clone from my brother to do samples of and I’m thinking about picking up the Jimi Hendrix Fuzz Face, which is a bigger version of the MXR Classic 108 Fuzz without the modern conveniences.
The MXR Classic Fuzz is a fine pedal but you have much better options currently available. The Bass Fuzz Deluxe is probably on the top of the list. If you are looking for a more radical type fuzz you could also look at the Swollen Pickle from Way Huge.
This doesn’t refer to tube-like sounding overdrives or distortion pedals, but really the classic fuzz boxes of the late 60s. MXR is offering a truly pure-fuzz pedal with its Silicon Classic, which can sound nasty and evil at times, but remains musical all the while.
The Buffer switch eliminates the audible oscillation caused when some wah-wahs are placed in front of a Fuzz Face. The Classic 108 Fuzz comes in a heavy-duty Phase 100-sized box with a sweet hammer-tone turquoise finish. It’s always good to have a classic pedal in your stompbox arsenal, in particular if it nopw takes less space than before! That’s what inspired MXR’s new, mini version of their Classic 108 Fuzz, check out the video we took at NAMM 2018 of it!
