SBL publishes a style manual on their website, The SBL Handbook of Style. The entire book can be downloaded for reference, or it can be found in the Regent University Library . Introduction *Please note most examples come directly from the SBL handbook of style.. The Society of Biblical Literature Handbook of Style functions as a supplement of The Chicago Manual of Style (CMS), “except in cases when the field very consciously and authoritatively adopts a different standard.”(The SBL Handbook of Style,1.1, p. 1).
For other types of sources, see The SBL Handbook of Style, pp. 38-75. Bibliographies for Footnote/Endnote Style. Type Example; Book by a Single Author: Talbert, Charles H. Reading John: A Literary and Theological commentary on the Fourth Gospel and the Johannine Epistles.
examples of books in a foreign language, as well as Google Books and blog posts. In addition to these changes, nearly every entry in SBL style (Society of Biblical Literature) has been changed because SBL published a new style manual in 2014. I use SBL style occasionally as a copyeditor, and I wasn’t aware there was a second edition until I encountered a job that required it. So I ordered the book and liked it–except for the price. But this has much more detail than the first edition, with nice cross-refs to the Chicago Manual of Style, and I’m hoping it will be a valuable
