The new SWEEP command in AutoCAD 2007 provides considerable flexibility for sweeping profiles along a path. It can automatically align a profile with a path and you can specify a variety of options including scale factor, twist angle, and banking.
In the Attach PDF Underlay dialog box, select one page, or use SHIFT or CTRL to select multiple pages. Use one of the following methods to specify the insertion point, scale, or rotation of the underlay file: Select Specify On-Screen to use the pointing device to attach the underlay at the location, scale, or angle you want.
You know you want it: With a click of a button you can convert PDF files to AutoCAD objects. No more tedious tracing on top of PDFs to recreate objects? It’s time to celebrate! For more CAD tips
The Command Window At the heart of AutoCAD is the Command window, which is normally docked at the bottom of the application window. The Command window displays prompts, options, and messages. You can enter commands directly in the Command window instead of using the ribbon, toolbars, and menus. Many long-time AutoCAD users prefer this method.
AutoCAD can use DWF as underlay (I forget when they added this) and also PDF (this is added in AutoCAD 2010). As underlay, you can do many things with these files. After you insert the file as underlay, select it. You will see contextual tab in your ribbon.
Unlike in the past when you imported a PDF the geometry within your PDF is now instantly DWG ready and not simply something to use as an underlay. This is a victory for many AutoCAD users and could save tireless hours drawing over the top of imported PDFs as you may have had to do in the past.
AutoCAD 2017 for Mac Preview Guide currently supports creating PDF files as a publishing output for AutoCAD drawings. PDF files can be the geometry, TrueType text, and raster images from a specified page in a PDF file, or from all or part of an attached PDF underlay. 15 IMPORT Command
Save both the dwg and xref file into the same folder and AutoCad will have no trouble locating the xref. Looking in the same folder first is an Autocad default if it finds the stored file path not workable. At least with a pdf underlay xref, if it is a vector pdf, one can actually find lines and things to snap to.
Finally, with AutoCAD 2010, this top AUGI wish list item as been granted. The PDF file actually becomes an underlay when brought into AutoCAD. You can clip the underlay, snap to it, control layer display, etc. If you are using the Ribbon — simply go to the Attach option of the Insert tab to import the PDF or you can key in the new Attach command.
From the Command prompt, inserts references to external files such as other drawings, raster images, point clouds, coordination models, and underlays. -ATTACH (Command) You can insert drawings (DWG), and DWF, DWFx, PDF, and DGN files.
