Install a manual valve body and get a shift kit/ decent clutch packs and you’ll love it. My AOD shifts so hard it feels like someones rear ending the car. then you can get a nice TCI or B&M hammer shifter. I guarantee you hitting a ratchet shifter is faster than a person shifting using their hand and leg.
I found recently on my many internet searches that if you have an AOD thats been built with a shift kit and a little stronger that the Lokar instructions are trash. Lentech has a write up that says to check pressure in park and have about 2 to 5 psi (with no spacer).
The trans has been freshly rebuilt and has a B&M shift kit installed. The instructions say to use the spacer on the tv cable and adjust it so that the pressure is 35 psi, idling in neutral with the engine at operating temperature and the trans oil luke warm. Now it gets funny.

I would also recommend that you use an “A” or “A+” OD servo. It will firm up the 3-4 shift. As far as shift kits are concerned the only one that is any good at all is the TransGo kit but it is not a very good kit for real high performance work. It does make the AOD a better shifter and extend the life.

well i have a B&M kit in my aod and it does just fine now the trany guy i used has been working with aods and the B&M kit for a while now and he does some unique things to get to work as well as it does. but even he says that in MOST cases b&m is the worst kit to use unless u got someone that REALLY knows how to make that kit work. just my 2 cents.
